Matthew Kaimana Packard-Asai was an extraordinary young man whose light touched everyone who knew him. He was raised with deep love and devotion by many, who helped shape the kind, thoughtful, and bright soul Matthew grew into.
Matthew found his passion in skateboarding, a love that began in 2018 after meeting his brother-in-law Joel. Together, Joel and Kellie took Matthew to Anahola Marketplace, where he received his very first skateboard from Elephit. From that moment on, skating became more than a hobby—it was his escape, his peace, and his joy. He also found happiness in fishing, spending quiet moments connected to nature and the ocean he loved.
During middle school, Matthew joined JROTC, making his family incredibly proud. He followed in the footsteps of his older brother Kyle, who was also in ROTC, showing discipline, respect, and leadership beyond his years. Matthew was remarkably intelligent and self-motivated; he even built his own computer system, a testament to his curiosity and technical skill.
Creative and artistic, Matthew dreamed of starting his own skate line, combining his love for skating with his artistic vision. He was gentle, kind-hearted, and had a special love for children. As an uncle, Matthew was patient, playful, and deeply loving—roles he embraced with pride and tenderness.
Matthew spoke often about his future, including his interest in learning helicopter mechanics, inspired by his brother-in-law Joel. He had dreams, goals, and a future filled with promise.
Though his time with us was far too short, Matthew Kaimana Packard-Asai leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, intelligence, and kindness. He will forever be remembered for his bright smile, his big heart, and the way he made those around him feel seen and loved. He will always live on in the hearts of his family, friends and all who were blessed to know him.
